31 houses have been burnt down in three villages ( Mibu, Beng and Tibu.) in the Nankina valley of Madang’s Raicoast District in the last two weeks.
Women have been raped and men beaten and cut with machetes by a gang that calls themselves “hetwara”
The gang abducts young teenage girls and recruits young boys from various villages in the area.
This has been ongoing for the last two years…this week a father was cut right on his neck for defending his 15-year-old daughter. He is now fighting for his life and his daughter is lost- taken away by the gang!
Madang police can’t do much because there is no road link…they need to be flown in. And what’s sickening about all these is that authorities, governments can fly in ballot papers to reach these people during elections but can not fly police in to help them now!!
It’s been two years and I wonder if the local MP Peter Sapia is aware of this?!!
